Ladakh - A World beyond Words!!!

Ladakh, land of high passes, is a region in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. It has an incomprehensible mountain beauty and culture. Everyone, whether you love traveling or not should visit this place and you will know that this world is definitely a better place to live.
I will be covering different parts of this trip in separate posts as it requires a great deal of description. First I will be discussing about how to reach Ladakh.

Ladakh is accessible both by air flight and road.

Flight

It is well connected with major cities of India via flight like Delhi, Jaipur, Srinagar, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kochi, etc. Due to high mountain winds in the afternoon, all flights take off and land only in the morning hours.

Road

Ladakh is connected by road both via Manali and via Srinagar. Till Manali and Srinagar you can travel either by luxury bus, train, taxi or flight. After Manali and Srinagar following options are available:
1. Taxi: They charge approx. INR 20,000. So its better to travel in group while planning a trip to Ladakh. Moreover taxi charges with in Ladakh and to nearby places are also on higher side due to rough and long journey. One can also book taxi from Delhi or any other nearby place for direct journey. You can find many taxi operators online.

2. Bike: Another very popular option for by road travel is Motorbike. Though its really fun but you have to be extra careful in that case, as you have to carry everything like petrol, spare parts, mechanic, etc. The route by road is not very luxurious and facilities like petrol pump, eateries, repair shops are really scarce. In any case if you are interested there are tour and travel companies which arrange everything for your comfortable travel.

3. Cycle: These days traveling by bicycle is also attracting people, mostly foreigners. In such cases a travel company arranges for the bicycles and a taxi along with. They travel in groups mostly and cover the whole distance partly by car and partly by cycle.

4. Shared Taxi: This is an economical option of travel to Ladakh costing anywhere between INR 1500 - 2000. You can find such shared taxis at taxi stand of Manali. For prior booking you can find them online also.

5. Bus: HRTC and JKSRTC have bus service to Ladakh from Manali and Srinagar respectively. It is a very budget friendly option but not as convenient as taxi. It will cost between INR 500 - 1000.

For with in Ladakh travel, sight seeing and visit to nearby tourist places, you have to book taxi from Ladakh itself. They charge according the fix rates of taxi union so nothing to worry about over pricing. If you are traveling in your own taxi, then nothing to worry about. But remember heavy vehicles like SUVs are better suited for traveling to Ladakh.
